The modern buildings of Dalian Zhongshan Square include the former Dalian Civil Affairs Department, the former Korean Bank Dalian Branch, the former Yamato Hotel, and the former Japan s Dongqing Steamship Club. Built by Tsarist Russia in 1900, it is called Nikolaevskaya Square. During the Japanese colonial rule, it was called the Grand Place. It was renamed after 1945.
In 1904, the Japanese colonial authorities continued to implement Tsarist Russia s urban planning intentions, and successively completed 10 buildings of different types and different construction forms in Zhongshan Square. Among them, the former Dalian Civil Affairs Department was built in 1908 and is a two-story brick-wood structure with a gothic structure, with a construction area of 3350 square meters. The former Dalian Bank of Korea Branch was built in 1918 with a construction area of 4,925 square meters. The original Yamato Hotel was built in 1914 as a nine-story steel-concrete baroque building with a construction area of 11,532 square meters. The former Japan Toyo Steamship Club was built in 1902. It is a western-European half-timbered truss building with a two- story and one-story brick-concrete structure on the ground.
The entire building complex is well-preserved and has high historical, artistic, and scientific value. At the same time, Zhongshan Square is one of the landmark buildings in Dalian and an important window to show the spirit of Dalian citizens.
