Baidi City is located on the north bank of the Yangtze River, 8 kilometers east of Fengjie City. It is backed by mountains, surrounded by water on three sides, leaning against the high gorge, and facing the Yangtze River.
The name of Xibai Emperor City first appeared in the late Western Han Dynasty. When Wang Mang usurped the throne, his general Gongsun Shu separated from Sichuan. Gongsun reported that in the kingdom of Tianfu, his power was gradually expanding and he was ambitious. He wanted to be emperor. He came to Qutangxiakou on horseback, and when the terrain was in danger, it was difficult to attack and defend, he expanded the city barriers and guarded his troops. Later, Gongsun Shu heard that there was a white crane well in the city, and a white mist often appeared in the well, and its shape was like a dragon, straight into the Jiuxiao. Gongsun Shu made a mysterious story, saying that it was the white dragon came out of the well, and it was a sign that he would inevitably become Jackie Chan in the future. Therefore, he claimed to be Baidi in 25 AD, and the city he built was named Baidi City, and the mountain was renamed Baidi Mountain. In 36 AD, Gongsun Shu and Liu Xiu competed for the wor ld, was destroyed by Liu Xiu, and Baidi City was reduced to ashes in the flames of war. During Gongsun s claim to emperor, there were frequent wars in various places, but the area of Baidi City was relatively peaceful. In order to commemorate Gongsun Shu, the local people specially built a White Emperor Temple in Baidi City with statues for worship. Until the Ming Dynasty, the statue of Gongsun Shu was removed and replaced by the statue of Liu Bei. There are also statues of Yu, Zhang Fei, and Zhuge Liang in the temple, but the name of Beidi Temple has been used ever since.
There are many poems, inscriptions and inscriptions in the ancient Baidi Temple, and there are more than 1,000 cultural relics and handicrafts on display. Among them is the famous Bashu bronze sword at the turn of the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Its shape is like willow leaves, and its craftsmanship is superb. When visitors watch it, they deeply praise the wisdom and craftsmanship of the ancient Ba people. In the east and west, there are more than 70 intact stone monuments on display, of which the inscriptions on the Sui Dynasty have a history of 1,300 to 400 years.
Xibaidi City is picturesque and has many historic sites. It has long become a must-visit for Chinese and foreign tourists to explore the Three Gorges scenery.
