Chelsea agrees to pay a world-shattering £71.6m fee, to buy over Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, making him the world's most expensive goalkeeper

Chelsea has agreed to pay a record breaking fee of £71.6m to replace their goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, with Kepa Arrizabalaga of Athletic Bilbai.

Reports say the Blues agreed to make Kepa the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of football, while Courois is trying to force a move to Real Madrid.

According to Sports Mail, Lawyers Enric Ripoll Gonzalez and Paolo Torchetti from De Ruiz-Hueta, and Crespo lawyers in Valencia represented the Premier League side, while the payment was made through the Kepa's lawyers and Magarita Garay, General Director of Bahia Internacional, accompaniedd by lawyers Rodrigo Garcia and Alvaro Reig de Laffer.

The fee was deposited yesterday Wednesday 7th August, 2018.

Confirming that the release clause for Kepa Arrizabalaga has been paid, Bilbao released a statement on their official website

On Wednesday August 8th 2018, at 12:02 p.m., the Professional Football League has certified to our entity that the player Kepa Arrizabalaga has fulfilled the requirements for the valid unilateral termination of the employment contract that linked him to Athletic Club.
The aforementioned certification states that the player has expressed his willingness to unilaterally close and terminate the relationship between them since the 2004/05 season and that the amount of compensation established in the contract has been deposited.
Athletic thanks the player for his contribution during his time in our Club.
In this sense, Athletic Club will continue working to ensure that being part of its team remains the highest personal and professional aspiration of each and every player, representing a unique sporting project and philosophy.

Our future is built on a choice freely made in the past that only brings a sense of pride. Hundreds of players, who have considered our team as their aspiration, have served this election; and this bet is found in those who have remained in Athletic throughout their career by their own desire, and, also, in those who have had an unintented exit as a result of the technical decisions of each moment.

Players who are the protagonists, in the end, of a genuine personal and collective commitment with which the people who make up Athletic can only feel connected.

Spanish sources say 23 years old Kepa will fly to England today Wednesday 8th August, and will undergo medical checkup soon, before he signs the long term contract, that will make him the most expensive goalkeeper of all times.
