National Assembly Adopts Bill To Postpone Legislative Elections to October 2019

Cameroonian members of parliament yesterday Monday July 2nd, 2018 adopted a bill extending their mandate at the glasshouse, at the request of the Head of State,  to October 2019.

"The mandate of the deputies is extended for a period of twelve months, from October 29, 2018," read the bill, supported by President Paul Biya.

The reason for this decision is to allow a smooth running of other elections especially the Presidential elections, where it is alleged 85 years old President aul Biya who has been in powers since 1982, could be among the candidates of presidential race come October 2018.

President Biya had told politicians that the holding of presidential, legislative and municipal elections in the same period would be "difficult" due to "overlapping electoral operations".
