Ossima Meko’o Frank Wilfrid

A cameroonian student by name  Ossima Meko’o Frank Wilfrid who was studying at Beijing’s Tsinghua University has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment, with a fine of 140,000-yuan, an equavelent of  11 , 822 789 F CFA, for scamming his Chinese girlfriend Hu,  the sum of 6 million Yuan, an equivalent of 506 660 329F CFA(Five hundred and six million, six undred and sixty thousand three hundred and twenty nine francs).

According to reports from Beijing News his Chinese girlfriend Hu transferred money severally to her boyfriend Wilfrid, whom she met on a dating site in 2014.

Hu said Weili as she affectionately calls him claimed to be born and raised in France. Hu fell in love with him and sold her house in Beijing to meet Weili's demands for money during their less-than-two-year relationship.

Weili asked Hu to help pay for his living expenses in Paris, where he went to attend a UN Global Conference. She later discovered he was in Cameroon at the time he lied he was in Paris attending the conference.

Weili also lived in Beijing together with his pregnant Cameroonian girlfriend, to whom he transferred some of the money he got from Hu.

He equally demanded her money to support his studies, living expenses and medical care costs in China

He was arrested in October 2016, after Hu discovered he was a fraudstar and reported him to the police, and was prosecuted in September last year.

According to the court judgment which is left open to the public on the court’s website, Wilfred lied that he got his Master’s Degree at Oxford University and was recommended to study at Harvard for post-doctoral program by UN Environment and to have an internship at UN, so he needed financial support from Hu. He also said that he needed money to buy a house in Paris after they got married and to invest in a restaurant in Cameroon.

In court, the country’s embassy in China confirmed that Wilfrid had read postgraduate at Beijing Normal University instead of Oxford while the investigations from the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau and Beijing People’s Procuratorate showed no record of exit to France from Wilfrid and proved that he transferred the money from Hu to bank accounts in Cameroon and other accounts in Beijing.
Based on evidence and defense, the court defined Wilfred’s claims of investment and internship and house purchasing in Paris as a crime of 'fraud according to the country’s criminal law'.
