93 Years Old President Robert Mugabe Of Zimbabwe Finally Bows To Pressure, And Resigns After 37 Years Of Reign

Wild celebrations are said to have broken out as impeachment proceedings were called to a close, Zimbabwe’s parliament speaker Jacob Mudenda announced. 

Wild jubilation broke out among MPs when Mudenda told the House. In his official resignation statement he said: ‘I Robert Gabriel Mugabe hereby formally tender my resignation as President of Zimbabwe with immediate effect.’

He faced mounting pressure to step down after the country’s ruling party, Zanu PF, sacked him on Sunday morning. 
Zimbabwe war veterans leader Chris Mutsvangwa said Mugabe would be replaced by Emmerson Mnangagwa, the deputy who he sacked earlier this month. 

The 93-year-old leader was expected to resign in a televised speech on Sunday night – but he left Zimbabweans stunned when avoided any mention of resignation during his rambling address.
