Sebastien Bassong is training with Harry Redknapp's Birmingham ahead of proposed move

Former Norwich captain Sebastien Bassong is training with Birmingham with a view to securing a permanent deal.
The 31-year-old is a free agent following his release from the Canaries at the end of last season.

Birmingham manager Harry Redknapp confirmed on Tuesday he is training with the club ahead of signing a deal.

Bassong was invited to Birmingham's Wast Hills training ground in hope of improving his fitness as Redknapp looks to shore up his defence.

The Blues' boss has been on the lookout for a central defender this summer and has turned his attentions to the free agent after seeing two bids for Bristol City's Aden Flint rejected.

He told Birmingham Mail: 'Seb played for me, he's a great lad and he's going to come in and get himself fit ready to play somewhere.
'He's on a free, he's a good lad and a good player who played for me at Tottenham.
'He was player of the year at Norwich two years ago and he's still a very good player in my opinion.'

Redknapp is also keen on exploring the possibility of bringing in former Blackburn Rovers captain Jason Lowe, who is also a free agent.

Birmingham have had a mixed-bag start to the season with just one win from four and have a home tie against Reading next in the Championship.
