    Minister Issa Tchiroma Say Minister Bibehe Will Be Launching The 2017/2018 School Year in Buea

    Blablalatious Issa Tchiroma is on making headlines once again with hi daily outings on government's point of view on the economic, political and social rounds of the country. Withe the 2017/2018 academic school year at the corner, the minister, was in a press outing on Monday Monday   28 August, to announce measures taken by government to ensure a hitch free 2017/2018 academic school year.

    The Press conference was attended by officials of the Ministries of Basic and Secondary Education who assured the press that certificates issued during the just ended school year are valid and recognised abroad.

    During the  press conference Minister Tchiroma stated that the previous school year was globally satisfactory except in the North West and South West Regions.

    He said the upheavals that ensued following the teacher's and lawyers protests impacted the performance of examinations organised by the GCE board in these regions.

    He urged parents to overcome fear and send their children to school noting that administrative, security and other measures have been put in place to guarantee a hitch free school year.

    The Minister outlined a number of measures taken by government to accompany school resumption, some of these include;


    • A CFA two billion subvention to each of  the Ministries of Basic and Secondary Education
    • The integration of PTA teachers in service since 2006
    • The deployment of 250 graduates from the Higher Teacher Training colleges to the two regions
    • The recruitment of one thousand bilingual teachers for technical subjects
    • The publication of 2017 / 2018 school calendar and booklists
    • The creation of 150 new primary schools and closure of 169  clandestine schools.
    • The contractualisation of 2970 part time teachers
    • The creation of anti-corruption brigades in all ten regions
    • The appointment of Head teachers and redeployment of teachers nationwide.
    • The institution of catch-up classes in the North West and Sourh West regions during the first two months into school resumption.
    • The construction of 967 classrooms and rehabilitation of 36 schools others.
    • The continous replacement of of technical teachers with bad english proficiency in the North West and South West regions.

    The Minister announced that the Minister of Secondary will personally launch the start of the 2017/2018 school year in Buea in the South West Region while other senior officials of the ministry will ensure the effective start of school in different parts of the country.

    To conclude, he urged the media to accompany the government in ensuring a hitch free start of the new school year.
