Minister Gregoire Owona Disgraces Fritz Ntone Ntone Over Disciplinary Actions On Douala City Council Workers
The Minister of Labour and Social Security Gregoire Owona has ordered the Government Delegate of the Douala City Council Fritz Ntonne Ntone to reintegrate 10 Staff Representatives that he (Ntone Ntone) requested Gregoire Owona to approve their dismissal, and to have their salaries paid
On April 10 2017, the staff of the Douala City Council went on rampage, demanding a health insurance coverage, and other social benefits that the law prescribes for workers. Almost 100 staff of the Council participated in the sit down strike, that paralyzed activities of the Council.
According to the boss Government Delegate Dr. Fritz Ntone Ntone, the Staff Representatives were the ones who encouraged their colleagues to go on rampage, because according to him, they bypassed the hierarchy, and initiated the strike action to the detriment of the image of the Douala City Council and its Managers.
For this reason, he wanted the staff representatives 10 in number to be fired, reason why he sort the back up of Minister Owona, through the Regional Delegate of Labour and Social Security, so that in case his decision backfires, he would have a pillar to lean on.
During a staff gathering earlier this month, Ntone Ntone was already briefing the staff of what will befall his victims, since he had high hopes Minister Owona will approve his request to dismiss them. 'Don't be fooled that the Minister of Labour has done this or that. It is the Delegate who recruits, and it is the Delegate who dismisses'. Ntone Ntone bragged during the meeting. 'It is now left to know whether we will be hard on them because if the fault is serious, they will go empty handed. If we decide to make it lighter, then we will have to see what to do'.
Contrary to Dr Fritz Ntone Ntone's self-confident declarations, Minister Gregoire Owona did not buy his idea, as a correspondence from the Regional Delegate of Labour and Social Security for the Littoral indicates that Minister Gregoire Owona refused to approve the dismissal of the Staff Representatives, but rather is ordering that they be reintegrated (because they are on suspension), and their salaries while they are on suspension paid to them in full. 'I have the honour to ask you to take note of my refusal to your request to dismiss 10 Staff Representatives of the Douala City Council, for lack of evidence and obstruction of the duties of the Government Delegate'.
The letter which is dated July 19th 2017, is copied to the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Governor of the Littoral, and the SDO for Wouri.
The big question is: Will Dr. Fritz Ntone Ntone submit to instructions from above, or will he continue to act in pride and self acclamation?'.
