The President of the African Development Bank Dr. Akinwumi Adesina ahs laid the foundation stone of the Lom Pangar Plant in the East Region of the country.
The ceremony sets the pace for the beginning of the second compactment of the Lom Pangar Hyro-electric project financed by the African Development Bank.
The AfDB has allotted FCFA 35 billion for the 30 Mega-watt energy project considered very important to the socio-economic development of the country.
During the ceremony to lay the founfation stone, all speakers restated this fact.
The top executive of the AfDB stated emphatically that "there can be no development if Africa is in darkness".
He commended government's determination to develope the energy sector and promised that the AfDB will stand by Cameroon.
The construction of the 30 mega-watt structure and the 90 kilo-volts transmission line from Lom Pangar to Bertoua is jointly funded by the African Development Bank and the Development Bank of the Central African States.
The AfDB gives priority to the development of the energy sector which is key to industrialisation.
Upon completion, some 150 localities in the region will have access to energy.
The President of the AfDB arrived Cameroon on Sunday 16th July 2017.
He was received at the Airport by the Prime Minister,Head of Government,Philemon Yang accompanied by administrative officials.
The visiting AfDB boss will hold talks with the Minister of the Economy Planning and Regional Development and other officials directly involved in national development .
He will be received in State House by President Paul Biya.
