Cameroon - Eseka Train Derailment - Driver/Conductor of Train No. 152 has been arrested and detained


Reports say the driver of train No. 152 that derailed killing hundreds of passengers and injuring many on Friday Oct. 21st is being detained in Yaounde.

According to "Le Jour Newspaper"  on kiosk this day, Mathias Y. was arrested and locked up since Sunday Oct. 23rd in Yaounde.

Speaking about the said conductor, Minister Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo'o told Cameroon Tribune yesterday that the driver came out of the accident unharmed. "I was informed that he got out of the accident unharmed. He was a bit traumatised after the accident, but he is ok  now. Camrail's authorities had already organised his hearing, but since an investigation is ongoing, he will be called up to answer some questions". The Minister said.

The assistant conductor T. Mukam is also under detention for investigation purposes, and the paper confirmed that the two are being detained and interrogated at the Yaounde Judicial Police.

Investigations have been opened up under the Chairmanship of  Klebert Fils Ntamack, State Counsel General at the Yaounde Mfoundi High Court, in collaboration with the Yaounde Judicial Police to determine the cause of the derailment of the train that had 1300 passengers on board.
