Cameroon - Eseka Train Derailment - Maurice Kamto says Minister Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo should resign immediately

Maurice Kamto

The Leader of the  Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) Party Maurice Kamto has addressed Friday 21 October's incidents, from the landslide on the Douala-Yaounde-Douala highway to the Eseka train accident, requesting President Biya to return home as soon as possible. Failure to do so, he invites the Parliament to urgently meet to note the absence of  Head of State, and then apply the relevant actions in the constitution regarding such situations.

In a Communique on CRM's website, Maurice Kamto declared that the very fist disaster on that fateful Black Friday October 21st fortunately did not involve any human lives on the Dla-Yde-Dla highway, and that at Minister Mebe Ngo's instruction, the train that usually leaves Yaounde for Douala at 10 a.m was rescheduled for 11 am.

According to Maurice Kamto, the said train was instructed by the Minister to double its wagons to sixteen, instead of the normal eight wagons, not considering the consequences of the overload.

Over loaded with passengers who were sitting and some standing, the train left Yaounde for Douala, and derailed just after Eseka at about 12h30, and it was only at 4:30 pm, that the rescue team got to the site with just two ambulances for hundreds of victims crying for help.

Maurice Kamto urges the Administration and Health authorities to apply the same emergency sanitary evacuation measures given to privileged members of the government on victims, especially those that are severely injured, and that psychological support should also be provided for survivors and families concerned.

He frowned bitterly at  Minister Mebe Ngo's controversial intervention during the 1 pm CRTV news that Friday, where he said the information about the Train Derailment was a false alarm from the Social Media. In his own words, the Minister said "No train has derailed today between Yaounde and Douala. I call on you all to help us fight misinformation through out the Social Media Networks".

In all these controversies, Maurice Kamto call on the Minister of Transport to immediately resign, or else he will be forced out for incompetency.

Cameroon Renaissance Movement through its Leader Maurice Kamto, extends their sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, and sends their unconditional motion of support and encouragement to those that are injured and their families.
